Review of ‘2012’

2012 is a disaster film. Let’s be a little more obvious and accurate. 2012 is a disastrous film. Regardless of whether you come in with expectations or without any pre-conceived notions.

Watching it makes you philosophical. Not about how the world’s going to end in three years and that we should live our life to the full. About how money cannot buy everything. About how a $ 250 million budget cannot buy you a good story, arresting dialogue and characters you want to root for.

GHAJINI DOESN’T BARSINI

Cloning. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “The Sixth Day” graphically portrayed its perils as the villain is undone by repeatedly cloning himself, each clone turning out dumber and dumber until they are too stupid to face up to Arny.

Ghajini did not listen. The third version of Chris Nolan’s brilliant ‘Memento’ (the second being the Tamil Ghajini) is so dumb, it should never have seen the light of day.

But first, a line or two about the story, for that is all that can be written about it. Hot-shot indu… Continue

RECESSION-PROOF JOBS

No. I’m not talking about becoming a barber or becoming eternally employed by kissing your boss’s er…..donkey. For both can be hairy affairs.

There are some more jobs that are recession-proof. Being a barber is one, as mentioned. So is being a teacher, heathcare professional, police officer, Laloo Prasad Yadav. But all these are so oh-so-boring. Well, not the last.

Still, choose from this much more eclectic list:

PERMANENT REALITY-SHOW CONTESTANT/JUDGE

India @ 2010-The Impregnable Fortress

In the cacophony of blame-game and finger pointing, amidst the chatter of ‘Never Again’ and ‘Enough is Enough’, I present these few words by way of gratuitous advice in all humility, conscious of the ignorance and naiveté that they may expose.

What will not work

Compulsory military training- What use are kung fu skills against a bomb that is put inside a stolen scooter and denoted remotely? We are not fighting a known enemy who needs to have the stuffing knocked out of him… Continue

‘DOSTANA’ Reviewed

***/5

Named after the first film produced by ‘Dharma Productions’ (and hence considered ‘lucky’ enough to not have a name starting with ‘K’), the soul of film essentially copies the first (two men vying for the same girl) with the gay angle and the climax of ‘Deewana Mastana’ thrown in. And of course, the ‘Kanta Ben’ gags of ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ provide due inspiration as well. For those who say the flick’s been inspired by “I now pronounce you Chuck & Larry’, that’s quite a stretch.

In case yo… Continue

The reason for contacting you is to get your opinion about tobacco in India. The use of tobacco in India has been quite rampant, its going to kill over 1 million people by 2010 in India. So we have a chance to do something about it since the World Conference on Tobacco or Health is going to take place in Mumbai next month.

India Matters gives you the platform to speak your mind on this issue, whether it is for it or against, we want to know what the youth thinks about tobacco usage, policies, the ban, gutkha, children getting addicted to tobacco etc. I am doing this on behalf of Salaam Bombay, the NGO that fights for tobacco addiction in children.

Your opinion will be put forward to the policy makers during the event by Salaam Bombay, since they are the organisers of this event. It will be published on India Matters, Opinions with a link to your site or blog. You can have a look at some of the opinions posted as well.

Hoping to hear from you on this.

Bhavika
